We’ve recently invested in new technology for our dental office to reduce airborne contaminants and therefore limit the spread of bacteria if we happen to encounter it in our office. Since some people may be sick but not show symptoms, these extra precautions can help us reduce the spread. In addition to strict infection control measures, we’re also using Surgically Clean Air – a revolutionary air filter. Learn more about Surgically Clean Air and find out how it makes our dental office safer.

What is Surgically Clean Air?

Surgically Clean Air is an air purification system that uses a six stage process to improve air quality. The six-stage process removes allergens, gases, molds, and viruses from the air. Traditionally in dental offices, any airborne contaminants circulate throughout the air conditioning system and make their way throughout the entire dental office. With Surgically Clean Air, the filtration system collects the contaminants and removes them from the air so they cannot circulate.

How Does Surgically Clean Air Protect Dental Patients?

Through the six-step filtration and sterilization process, our patients will have a decreased exposure to bad bacteria if it comes into contact at our dental office. Learn what happens at every step of the filtration process.

Step 1: The air from our dental office makes its way to the first stage, the pre-filter. The pre-filter removes large particles including germs and bacteria when they pass through the intake chamber. The pre-filter stage prevents the bacteria and germs from growing or moving along.

Step 2: When the air enters the next stage, the filter catches the smallest particles as small as 0.01 microns. For scale, this is 15,000 times smaller than a human hair. These tiny particles pass through an electrical field where they become electronically charged. In the next stage, collector plates immediately attract the charged particles and contain them from passing on.

Step 3: The air then flows through an activated carbon filter to absorb chemicals, gases, and odors.

Step 4: The air then flows through the photo-catalytic stage to capture any destroyed residue including bacteria, viral organisms, and VOCs.

Step 5: The air flows through a U.V. chamber to disable the DNA of bacteria and viruses which ultimately destroys them.

Step 6: Before releasing the cleaned air back into the room, it’s revitalized with negative ions to increase the flow of oxygen to the brain.

Benefits of Using Surgically Clean Air

It’s common for dental instruments to release ultrafine particles and aerosols into the air which can circulate throughout the dental office for up to 41 hours. By using Surgically Clean Air, Top Down Dental can provide our team members and staff with clean air to breathe and reducing the risk of disease.

As a bonus, the air released by Surgically Clean Air can improve alertness, help patients feel less drowsy, and increase mental energy. Lastly, it reduces dental odors in the air that can cause dental anxiety in some patients. The machine is quiet and you will not even notice it’s running.
