Here in Los Gatos, we’ve been on lockdown for several weeks now. If it’s taking a toll on you, we understand. Our team has also been feeling the effects of coronavirus, worrying about family members and patients alike.

However, we want to encourage you during this time that your oral health is more important than ever. Since you can’t visit your dentist, you’ll have to take extra care of your teeth until Top Down Dental expects to return to work.

Keeping Your Smile Shiny and Bright

Preventative dentistry is the best way to stop bacteria in its tracks. Generally, we recommend seeing your dentist every 6 months, but, now, you’ll have to take preventative dentistry into your own hands to avoid gum disease and tooth decay.

First, make sure you’re brushing your teeth for the right amount of time. Though most people only brush for 45 seconds, you should actually brush your teeth for two full minutes, twice a day.

Additionally, add flossing to your routine if you don’t already floss. When you floss, use 18 inches of dental floss so that each tooth has a new, clean section. Then, gently slide the floss up both sides of each tooth to reach all those nooks and crannies.

There’s No Better Time Than Now

With the coronavirus, you’re at home for long periods of time. This means you either have no time (running around after your cooped-up children day and night) or you have more time than you ever imagined! If your situation is the latter, there’s no better time than now to up your oral routine. And, if it’s the prior, you can teach your children about good oral hygiene at an early age.

Though past theories claimed that it takes 21 days to form a new habit, new research tells us that it can take anywhere from 18 to 254 days. With numbers like that, all we can do is get started! If you don’t currently floss, work that into your daily routine. Maybe you already do and now want to start using mouthwash daily. Well, get that amazon order in the works and start using mouthwash since you have all that extra time.

We’ll Be Here Once the Order Lifts

We are very proud of our state taking precautions to keep our residents safe but we also want to get back to keep your mouth safe!
